BASE duty rate queries? Insider info here…
Ghurka Rover No. 66 - in suede & leather
PD Public Service Announcement → I bet you already know this... but a friendly reminder :)
The outer-surface material on a handbag will change your BASE duty rate. That is before any country-of-origin tariffs get added on top.
A few examples from some exciting reading (you can find all the gory details on the hts.USITC.gov website) - rates for handbags specifically (Source: US Harmonized Tariff Schedule, Chapter 42, 2026 Revision 16 from August 2026):
- Leather or composition leather: 9-10%
- Man-made fiber textile: 17.6%
- Cotton: 6.3%
Not suggesting anyone design around duty rates, but it's a conversation I think is worth having during costing and pricing.
Other bag categories - backpacks, travel bags, luggage - have their own separate rate structures (and of course, country of origin, trade programs, and the exact classification can add more on top of all of these). Easy as pie!
